Q:          What is the HST Taught Programme?

A:           The HST Taught Programme is an essential element of the HST curriculum. It consists of a series of modular elements spread across the years of HST covering core professional skills requirements of the training curriculum such as communication, ethics, etc. The programme is delivered via a combination of self-paced online content, live virtual tutorials, and in-person workshops.

Q:          How does the HST Taught Programme work?

A:           Trainees will be assigned self-paced online content per quarter. This self-paced online content will be delivered via RCPI’s virtual learning environment, Brightspace. Trainees must plan the time to complete requirements per quarter and to attend the virtual tutorials.

Your ePortfolio will be viewed by your Trainer at Quarterly Assessments, and by an Evaluation Panel at your End of Year Evaluation. As the HST Taught Programme is an essential part of your HST, you will need to make sure to log your progress in ePortfolio to ensure it correctly reflects completion of these elements of your curriculum.

Q:          What is a Virtual Tutorial?

A:           Twice per training year you will attend a scheduled virtual tutorial lasting 2 hours. Allocated dates will be provided before the start of the training year. To supplement this, you may be asked to provide evidence of your progress with the HST Taught Programme at your Quarterly Assessment with your Trainer. You will be able to print progress from Brightspace which you can present as required.

Q:          What do I need to bring to my End of Year Evaluation to show my progress in my HST Taught Programme?

You may wish to upload a screen shot to your ePortfolio as supporting documentation.

Q:          How long will I have access to my HST Taught Programme in Brightspace?

A:           Once released, all self-paced online content will remain available to you for the duration of your HST programme, i.e. you will at no point be ‘locked out’ from accessing lessons. However, if content is left incomplete, it will be reported and may be queried by your Trainer/NSD.

Q:          How long will I have to complete self-paced online content in the HST Taught Programme?

A:           New content is added quarterly throughout each year of your HST Taught Programme. It is strongly recommended that you complete self-paced online content in advance of the virtual tutorials. Once released, all self-paced online content will remain available to you for the duration of your HST programme, i.e. you will at no point be ‘locked out’ from accessing lessons. However, if content is left incomplete, it will show up in your progress report. Trainees are responsible for completing at least 85% of the online learning per year of training. It is important to note that if content is not completed, it will be reported and may be queried by your Trainer/NSD.

Q:          When is new self-paced online content released on Brightspace for the HST Taught Programme?

A:           Pre-Scheme and Quarter 1 (July-September) teaching content will be available to trainees approximately six weeks before the training year’s July start date. Q:          Do I have to complete self-paced online content modules in order?

A:           The self-paced online content for each quarter has been designed in structured lessons that are aligned with the virtual tutorials. Following the content as per design aims to optimise your engagement and enhance learning, however there is no restriction on this order, so you will have the option to decide the best route through the content for yourself.

Q:          Do I have to complete self-paced online content before each Virtual Tutorial?

A:           It is strongly recommended that you complete self-paced online content in advance of the virtual tutorials.
