What is MFA (Multi-factor authentication)?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds another level of security to your account by prompting you during the sign-in process to enter an additional form of identification, requiring two or more verification methods. Typically, this includes something you know (your password) and something you've got (a code sent to your phone).

RCPI use Azure AD Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) which helps safeguard access to RCPI data and applications and delivers strong authentication via a range of easy verification options—phone call, text message, or mobile app notification and one-time passwords.

Why do I need MFA?

MFA is crucial for enhancing the security of your account. There are several reasons why this important:

Enhanced Security: MFA significantly increases the security of your online accounts by requiring multiple forms of identification. Even if someone manages to obtain your password, they would still need access to your second factor in order to gain entry.

Protection Against Password Theft: Passwords can be easily stolen or compromised through various methods such as phishing attacks or data breaches. By using MFA, even if your password is compromised, the hacker would still need the additional factor to gain access to your account. This helps to protect your sensitive information from unauthorized access.

Protecting your Digital Identity: MFA ensures you are the only one who can access your College account which is filled with online activities.
