The Medical Council Framework now requires doctors to record a Professional Development Plan every year.  Planning activity attracts up to 5 CPD credits per year, which will be counted against your overall CPD requirement.

A Plan encourages you to define your practice, identify appropriate education activities, and set goals for your personal development. It can also be used to reflect on and monitor your progress.

The Irish Medical Council encourages doctors to engage in peer review. In this context, if you share your plan with a colleague and your colleague provides feedback to you, you can both claim 1 CPD credit.

Reflection is an important part of the learning process.  When you review and reflect on your plan, and record this action in your ePortfolio, you can claim 1 CPD Credit

How to gather 5 CPD credits for Planning activity

  • Submitting your plan to your ePortfolio attracts 3 CPD Credits
  • Recording your peer review in your ePortfolio attracts 1 CPD Credit
  • Recording some notes about reviewing and reflecting on your plan at year-end attracts 1 CPD Credit
