Remember that the Professional Competence year runs from 01 May to 30 April, and any claims must be for activities that took place within that period.
You must:
- Be properly enrolled on a Professional Competence Scheme
- Record sufficient activities in your ePortfolio for Professional Competence to meet the Medical Council requirements for the relevant year
What were the requirements for 2024-2025?
- 40 CPD credits (in any category: External, Internal, Personal Learning, Research or Teaching); and
- One Audit or Quality Improvement project
What are the requirements for 2025-2026?
From 1 May 2025, the Medical Council has a new Framework for the Maintenance of Professional Competence. For more information, read this article: Annual Requirements from 1 May 2025
You must make a declaration of compliance with Professional Competence when you are completing your Medical Council Annual Retention Form (ARAF)
Absence from Practice
If you are absent from practice for more than 90 days in a Professional Competence year (May to April) you may be eligible for an annotation on your Annual Statement of Participation. You must be enrolled on a scheme in order to submit the correct absence form through your ePortfolio for Professional Competence

Plan your activities so that you can make the time to engage in the necessary number of activities and record them in good time for them to be included in your Annual Statement of Participation in Professional Competence
