Dear Doctor,
While you may be enrolled in Higher Specialist Training (HST), your registration will remain on the General Division unless you are claimed by a clinical site (e.g., if you are based in research, working abroad, etc.). For this reason, you are required to enrol for Professional Competence.
If your absence from clinical practice extends for 90 days or more within a Professional Competence year (May–April), and falls into one of the categories listed below, it is possible to have this annotated on your Annual Statement of Professional Competence. This annotation will explain any shortfall in meeting the requirements for that year:
- Maternity Leave
- Medically Certified Sick Leave
- Bereavement Leave
- Parental Leave
- Adoptive Leave
- Carer’s Leave
We appreciate that you may have received conflicting information suggesting that enrolment in Professional Competence is not required if you are on HST. However, under the advice of NDTP, your status will remain on the General Division, and registration in Professional Competence is necessary.
